4-H Camp

- 4-H Camp
- When
- 7/18/2022 – 7/21/2022
Parents of 4th,5th, and 6th graders,
Good Afternoon! At club meetings last week, 4-Hers were given the 2022 4-H Camp Information Packet. We have not been to camp at Camp Grant Walker since 2019 due to the pandemic and damaged sustained from the 2020 hurricanes! Finally, after a long three year wait, we get to return to Camp Grant Walker! Our Camp dates are July 18-21.
- Many of you may not be familiar with camp, but this information packet should tell you everything you need to know to make your decision. You may have your own memories from Camp Grant Walker if you attended as a 4-H member. While we are excited to be back this year, we will be back at a limited capacity.
- Several have asked, “Why only 13 boys and 13 girls?” Well, this is the quota we were given from the camp for our week. The camp is functional, but still needs repairs and cannot yet operate at full capacity. We will have a waiting list, if necessary, beyond the numbers we are given. There is always a chance we could get more beds if other parishes do not fill their spots or if the capacity limit is increased. The questions on the back of the application are something that many parishes do to determine who gets to go to camp. Do not get discouraged if your child has not participated in events or contests outside of school this year. That does not mean they will not get to go to camp!
- Your $50 deposit will not get deposited until we have confirmed you are registered for camp. Anyone who may be on the waiting list will have their deposit returned! The only way we would keep a deposit is if someone registers camp and then backs out without filling their spot.
- We understand the cost of camp can be significant for some families. There are two scholarship opportunities available based on financial need. The first is the Saints Pelicans scholarship, which will cover camp cost for one 4-Her in each parish. You must fill out the application attached to be considered for this scholarship. The other scholarship is the Chancellor Scholarship, also based on financial need. We will verify with the school board who qualifies, using the free or reduced lunch program. These students will receive $60 off the cost of camp.
- After camp applications are collected, we will notify those who have been selected will be notified and invoices will be sent out.
- You MUST complete your registration using 4-H Online. The attached guide will help you through the process. You must complete all steps or your registration will be incomplete. Please select your school club as your 4-H club. Please register using 4-H Online as soon as possible, so we can begin your camp registration and send it to you to complete with your information. This is our first time using this registration, so please understand it is a learning process for all of us! Feel free to email me with any questions.
- We are looking for one male and one female adult volunteer who would like to spend the week with us at camp and chaperone the kids! As a volunteer, your fee to attend is covered at no cost to you. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact me so I can provide you with more information.
